App Store 2.4.1 rejection: iPhone apps on iPad

This guide is for iPhone apps that don't behave correctly when used on iPad.

Your iPhone build can be reviewed on an iPad. Under 2.4.1, Apple says iPhone apps should run on iPad whenever possible. A phone-sized interface still needs to let the reviewer complete the app’s tasks.

Test the failed interaction

Install the submitted build on an iPad and follow the reviewer’s steps. Check clipped buttons, keyboard overlap, permission prompts, orientation, image pickers, and modal windows. We’d focus first on the specific interaction that blocks progress.

Fix the supported experience

Adjust the layout or platform-specific behavior so the task works. Ask your developer to check device capability declarations if the app depends on hardware unavailable on the reviewed device. Explain a genuine hardware dependency precisely; don’t treat it as a general excuse for an unusable screen.

Run the same flow again on iPad and iPhone, including dismissing the keyboard and returning from system dialogs. Send Apple the device and build used for the successful test, with a short recording if it helps demonstrate the correction.
