App Store 4.5.6 rejection: Apple emoji artwork
By The Draftbit team · Updated

This guide is for iPhone and iPad apps or metadata using Apple emoji as characters or bundled artwork.
Typing an emoji and bundling Apple’s emoji image are different uses. Under 4.5.6, Unicode characters can render as Apple emoji in your app and metadata. Apple prohibits embedding its emoji artwork directly in the binary or using that artwork on other platforms.
Check the asset’s origin
Inspect image files, sticker sheets, exported designs, and shared cross-platform assets. Is the app rendering a Unicode character through the system, or displaying a copied PNG/SVG of Apple’s design? We’d check the compiled assets as well as the design file.
Replace copied artwork
Use permitted system-rendered characters where appropriate, or artwork you have the rights to distribute. Remove Apple’s emoji images from bundled and non-Apple-platform assets covered by the rule.
Inspect the rebuilt app and its store screenshots to confirm the intended rendering. Give Apple the replaced asset names and the new implementation. If the flagged symbol was already a system-rendered character, explain that distinction with the relevant screen and build details.
