This guide is for Google Play apps selling or promoting goods presented as genuine branded products when they are counterfeit.
A marketplace can be responsible for counterfeit listings supplied by its sellers. Google’s policy prohibits selling or promoting goods that imitate another brand’s identifying features to pass as genuine.
Inspect products and suppliers
Review the listing, product images, brand claims, and evidence of authenticity. We’d trace the supply chain for the goods Google identifies rather than rely solely on a seller’s checkbox.
Remove the goods and improve admission checks
Remove counterfeit sales and promotions, including recommendations and external purchase routes. Adjust seller or catalog review so the same products don’t return under altered names.
Test catalog imports and search with safe test records. Give Google the affected listings, actions taken, and the review process now in place. If the goods were misidentified, provide factual authenticity evidence through the appeal process without exposing unnecessary supplier or customer information.
