Get an iPhone or iPad build into TestFlight

You want someone outside your development setup to try the iPhone or iPad app. TestFlight starts with a processed build, then a choice of testers. Internal testing is for eligible App Store Connect team members; external testing is for people outside that team, with different access and review steps.

You’ll need an active developer membership, an app record, a processed build, and a working backend. Resolve any export-compliance task on the build first.

Choose a group and build

Open the app’s TestFlight area and select the build you want tested.

For internal testing, create or select a group of eligible App Store Connect users. Apple supports up to 100 internal testers. For people outside the team, create an external group; Apple supports up to 10,000 external testers.

Complete any beta review

Supply the requested beta description, feedback contact, testing instructions, and reviewer access.

Submit for beta review when required for external testing. The first external build requires review; later builds may not require a full review. Beta approval doesn’t submit or approve your App Store version.

Invite someone to try the app

Once the build is available to the group, send the invitation or configured public link. Have a tester confirm that they can install the intended build and use the features you need feedback on.

Collect feedback and upload another build when you make changes. Track build expiration: TestFlight builds are available for up to 90 days.

If the invitation doesn’t lead to an installation

Check processing, export compliance, beta review, group assignment, and expiration. An invitation can’t make an unavailable build installable.

When you’re ready for the public release, continue with App Review submission.
