App Store 5.2.3 rejection: Media downloading and conversion

This guide is for iPhone and iPad apps downloading, saving, converting, sharing, or streaming media from third-party sources.
A download button can trigger a rights rejection even when the media is easy to play in a browser. Under 5.2.3, downloading or converting third-party media needs explicit authorization from the source. Streaming can also violate its terms.
Follow every supported source
Check pasted URLs, browser extensions, share-sheet actions, cached playback, and export formats. We’d inspect what the app actually accepts, not just the sources advertised in the listing.
Remove unsupported capabilities
Disable sources or operations you aren’t authorized to support. If you have permission, prepare documentation covering downloading, conversion, or distribution as applicable. A user checkbox saying they own the content doesn’t establish your authorization from a third-party service.
Test permitted and unsupported links, including alternate entry points. Confirm that a removed download route can’t still be reached through sharing or background processing. Give Apple the sources supported, the operation allowed, and the authorization it requested. Consult qualified advice where the rights are uncertain.
